What does the moor frog know about protecting the environment?

juli 1, 2022
Absolutely nothing and why should it? After all, we consumers are the ones responsible for any environmental damage that can threaten its habitat.

Various animal and insect species are currently vanishing at a rate that is 100-1,000 times faster than what we had expected. This is a part of the FSC® week where we celebrate biodiversity to let us all know how crucial it is for us to look after our wildlife. Once a species is gone, it will never return.

Frogs are “barometers” of the environment

The moor frog is a fascinating story in itself. It is one of around 4,000 different frog species known to mankind. There are frogs everywhere on the globe – except Antarctica – and what is so beautiful about these creatures is that they serve as perfect “barometers” for the health of our environment. If the frogs seem to be thriving, it is a good sign. If not, we should be alarmed.

The toxic compounds that a frog gets exposed to are absorbed in its skin and stored in its fatty tissue. Some toxins have the potential to cause metabolic disruptions and even malformations and cancer in the frogs. The frogs, to put it differently, are our “eyes” when it comes to spotting trouble ahead.

FSC helps protect biodiversity

Every time you purchase an FSC®-certified product you contribute to the preservation of the moor frog and all the other living creatures in nature. They are what keep our forests and our globe alive. All Nopa Nordic’s inner cartons, master cartons, and labels are made from FSC®-compatible materials and support UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land. This particular goal aims at

  • Protecting, restoring and promoting sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems
  • Sustainably managing forests
  • Combating desertification
  • Halting and reversing land degradation
  • Halting loss of biodiversity
