Nopa Nordic

Nopa Nordic was founded by Niels Thostrup in 1964. Ever since, we have grown to become the largest private label manufacturer in the Nordic countries, where we have specialized in sustainable and eco-labelled laundry products, cleaning agents, and personal care products.

Niels Thostrup

1964

Nopa Nordic still belongs to the Thostrup family but the company has hired a management team. Niels Thostrup’s grandchildren are represented on the board and follow the company in detail.

SKONA

1993

ICA, a Swedish chain of supermarkets, introduced their premium SKONA products in 1993 – our very first products that were produced in compliance with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel

    Nopa Nordic is founded by Niels Thostrup and has been owned by the family ever since.

    We start our washing powder factory and expand our range of products.

  • 1993

    We introduce our first eco-labeled product

  • 1996

    Optical white is removed from all our laundry powders.

  • 2012

    We establish a daughter company in Sweden.

  • 2012

    Our export trade reaches 70%.

  • 2014

    We establish a daughter company in Germany.

  • 2014

    Introduction of the first 100% recycled PET bottle.

  • 2015

    The first RSPO-certified palm kernel oil is purchased.

  • 2016

    Nopa Nordic acquires Allison – a solid Danish supplier of personal care products that was founded in 1970. We are now able to offer a much wider product range with strengthened sustainable product development. 

  • 2017

    Goal-oriented reduction of industrial wash water and increased focus on special methods for collecting and reusing waste water in connection with bleach manufacturing.

  • 2018

    Nopa Nordic acquires a 5% stake in the Italian company Chemical Flacer, which produces all our dishwasher tabs.

  • 2018

    We launch a new packaging strategy. We’ve been working strategically on sustainable packaging for many years, but now our vision is concretized.

  • 2018

    We introduce our first PE Bio bottle.

  • 2018

    We launch the first Ecocert-certified product.

  • 2018

    Start-up of the “0-waste” project that aimed at removing/ reusing/ recycling our waste.

  • 2019

    We are now able to offer our consumers rPE bottles and rPP caps made from 95% recycled plastic.

  • 2020

    Nopa Nordic buys Niels Thostrup Jr.’s shares. The company is now 100% owned by the two siblings, Julie and Anders Thostrup.

  • 2020

    New district heating system makes it possible for us exclusively to use district heating from a COD neutral biomass plant, which itself only uses surplus heat from a local building material manufacturer.

  • 2020

    Increased focus on COD emissions. The annual COD emission rate dropped by 23% from 2017-2020. There are ambitious plans to make even more drastic cuts in 2021.

  • 2020

    60% of all the palm kernel oil we purchase is RSPO-certified.

  • 2021

    We introduce our customers to monolayer laundry detergent refill sachets.

  • 2021

    We get our IFS HPC certification. IFS HPC is an international standard for assessing product and process compliance in relation to consumer product safety and quality.

  • 2021

    Approval and initiation of Environmental Technology Development and Demonstration Program – a lighthouse project that focuses on reducing CO2 emissions.

  • 2021

    As the first companies in the world in our categories, Nopa Nordic and Allison are certified by Bureau Veritas for complying with UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
